If you have been following my blog and facebook this year you’ve probably noticed a lot less family sessions.. It’s true.. I’ve decided to take a break from family sessions and all non-wedding related photography for a while. Not because I don’t love photographing families! I do!! I adore capturing those genuine giggles and snuggles between Mommy and Daddy and Kiddos! But the unfortunate truth about portrait photography is that the perfect time of day to photograph portraits is during the evening hours, when the light is low, and soft, and warm in the sky… which also happens to be dinner and family time for 99% of normal households. And see, I already give up around 15 weekends a year to photograph weddings, so giving up 5 to 10 evenings out of a month to photograph beautiful families on top of the engagement and bridal sessions I have committed to for my brides and grooms was simply taking too much time away from my own family.
So I made the incredibly tough decision earlier this year to step away from all non-wedding related photography for a while to regain some time with my husband and my daughter, have some much needed nothing-on-the-calendar days, and to spend some focused time improving and changing some things in the wedding side of my business.
The honest truth is that I feel so relieved. I feel like I have a family life now and that we can actually schedule to do other things outside of work.. it’s such a freeing feeling! I may return to photographing family sessions one day but until then I hope you can understand why I’ve stepped away. There is nothing more valuable than time with my family and I wouldn’t trade these extra evenings I’ve had with them for all the portrait session revenue in the world. Thank you for understanding!
But I did get a fun chance to do a little family shoot with Tracy + James and their son Damian! I am photographing their wedding next year and they asked if they could exchange their engagement session with a family session to include their son.. It was so rejuvenating for me to get a chance to photograph some snuggles and tickles and laughs again! I think it’s perfect that they wanted to include him in their shoot.
