You know the phrase “when you know, you know”. Well Kody knew. From the first day he met Ashli when he was 14 he told his buddy he was going to marry that girl. Ashli and Kody became close friends through middle school and early high school and after some persistence from Kody trying to take their friendship to the next level, finally Ashli decided to see Kody as a boyfriend instead of just a friend her sophomore year. They’ve held each other through thick and thin ever since and here we are 10 years since the day Kody announced he was going to marry Ashli – I’m sharing their wedding day!
Their day was full of emotion. So much love was poured out to them from their friends and family to celebrate this special time and also to lift them up as they remembered Kody’s Mother who passed away 2 years ago. She wasn’t with them in the physical but there was so much evidence that her presence was there in spirit through each and every person there. She was with her son the whole way!
The two of them incorporated his mother’s remembrance in so many ways! Ashli gave Kody a special pendant to wear in his jacket with her picture, right by his heart the entire day. There wasn’t a dry eye among any of us who saw her sweet gesture. Ashli wore a piece of Kody’s mom’s wedding dress around her bouquet and they also toasted using the same champagne flutes that Kody’s parents used at their own wedding! I think, though, the most remarkable was that they took his mother and father’s wedding bands, had them melted down together and used the gold from his parents bands within his own wedding band. It was incredibly beautiful! There were so many thoughtful elements that they incorporated which proved to us just how much family means to Ashli and Kody. They love fiercely.
We were honored beyond measure to to have witnessed such a special day held at the gorgeous (and brand new!) Copper Ridge on the Neuse in New Bern, NC, and we are happy to present to you the newest Mr. & Mrs. Culpepper!
Ashli & Kody “buried the bourbon” at the site of their ceremony to ensure great weather on their wedding day! We’ve seen this done a couple other times and and I think I’m learning the weather just might like bourbon. Per the usual, we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day! Digging it up and having the bridal party all take a swig is just the icing on the cake ;-)
