Boulder CO Engagement Photos | Flagstaff Mountain

Our lives have been full of some really fun adventures since I met Sybil Skinner of Yeopim Flowers … has it been 6? 7? Years ago?? Time sure flies when you are having fun! We’ve collaborated on styled shoots (here, here, and here) and fun afternoon parties (here and here). She designed MY wedding florals in 2015 and I’ve photographed her work at countless weddings of brides who hired us both for their lovely wedding days.  Jerry and I have spent Christmas Eves and birthday parties with them and feel pretty much like a part of the family now!  Both of our sets of parents are long distance and Sybil & John have made their way into our lives as our local Mom and Dad.

Of all the fun we’ve had over the last few years, the highlights have been happening during last year and this year as we are getting the chance to document Sybil’s real children’s weddings!  Her son Will and his lovely bride Caitie got married last year in Maryland and THIS year we are planning her daughter Elizabeth and her fiance, Matt’s spring 2019 wedding!

The adventures never quit with this family.  Will and Caitie, both botanists, had their engagement photos in the William and Mary Greenhouse which was incredibly perfect for them.  And Elizabeth and Matt had us join them last weekend in snowy Boulder, CO for their engagement photos which I am SO excited to share today!

Matt currently lives in Boulder where he works as a scientist who plays with lasers at NIST to count atoms.. Pretty fancy, right!?  Elizabeth says his title is Best Postdoc in Charge of Keeping Everything from Falling Apart.  Matt prefers Physicist at NIST.  Elizabeth lives in Williamsburg and is the lead scientist at Midstream Technology where she does mathematical modeling of acoustics.  Her current project is on researching benign bird deterrents for science. Anddddd she is finishing her PhD in Applied Science, too.

These people are going to have some really smart kids.

They met in fall of 2012 for the first time but became friends in spring 2013 when Matt came over to Elizabeth’s to brew beer for a party.  That’s when it all began.  They were friends for a very long time before they both realized there has to be more going on between them. By May of 2015, they were officially an item!

With Matt being long distance, we had met him a handful of times around family gatherings (cause you know we are always at those Skinner family gatherings!) but hadn’t gotten the opportunity to really get to know him and his love for Elizabeth until this past weekend.  We kinda fell head over heels for this guy (hope you don’t mind sharing, Elizabeth!).  His love for her is tender and undeniable. The way they interact together is honest and patient.. and there is never a shortage of laughter.  All the magic ingredients for a successful marriage!

Because Matt has been in CO for work, they have spent quite a bit of time together there and wanted their engagement documented in that stunning location.  When they asked if we’d be willing to come to Boulder for their shoot we pretty much said “DUHH!!”.  It was such a beautiful experience and we even got lucky enough to have two completely different backdrops to photograph against while we were there! Our first day was foggy and snowy which was beautiful in and of itself, but the next day, as the storm passed through we were able to see those gorgeous Rocky Mountain peaks at Flagstaff which were enough to take your breath away!

Jerry and I even swallowed our severe fear of heights as we climbed up a slippery, rocky lookout that I am pretty sure was the highest mountain peak on earth.  Elizabeth and Matt walked out to the edge for some photos and I … well, crawled.. along with them to get the shot.  THAT’S HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU GUYS.

Our time with the upcoming Mr. & Mrs. Simons was SO much fun (and partly terrifying) and we are so grateful that we get to celebrate such a happy joy with our second family yet again!

… thankfully their wedding day will be on the flatlands of NENC ;-) …

Beverly Simons - Cutest couple ever!! Of course as Matt’s mom I might be just a little prejudice. These photos are absolutely marvelous! I am so happy you guys were able to fly out there (weather notwithstanding) and got to take the photos on both a snowy and gorgeous sunny day. I can’t wait to see the wedding photos -:)ReplyCancel
